ABOUT ME
Michael Ibbotson is a professor of neuroscience and biomedical engineering at the University of Melbourne. He obtained his PhD from the University of London. He and his research team specialize in developing implantable devices for medical use. He was involved in developing vision prostheses, commonly referred to as bionic eyes, for returning sight to the blind. More recently, he has been developing brain machine interfaces to detect and manage neurological disorders, such as Epilepsy. He has published nearly 170 scientific articles, many in the highest ranked scientific journals.
Outside his professional life, he has a passionate interest in politics, military history, aviation and naval history. He holds a private pilot’s license. As a matter of prudence, he learned how to do free-fall parachuting before learning to fly. He spent four years in the Australian Army Reserve in the infantry. His greatest love in recent years has been to travel the World with his wife and two children.
His first history book was “From Normandy to Germany in a Tank” and his second book, slated to come out in March 2026, is “The Full Story of the Sea and Air Battles of the Falklands War”.
